Founded in 2003, Perfect Engineering Pty Ltd is an Australian engineering consultancy and design firm providing civil, structural, mechanical and infrastructure engineering services, with an expanding research focus in high-speed aerospace engineering. Led by Managing Director and Professor Dr George Nadim Melhem (UNSW) [Adjunct Professor], the company’s aerospace research interests include super/hypersonic wind-tunnel testing, structural and materials performance under high-speed aerodynamic and thermal loading, and aerospace alloy ageing. Perfect Engineering combines commercial capability with long-term applied research and collaboration with academia. Perfect Engineering is seeking partnerships with U.S. industry, government laboratories, research organisations and universities to support experimental high-speed aerospace research and the development and validation of advanced engineering solutions.
A key research interest is understanding the behaviour and ageing kinetics of aerospace alloys exposed to the combined effects of aerodynamic loading, temperature and service conditions relevant to high-speed aircraft. Perfect Engineering provides:
Aerospace, civil, structural, mechanical, and infrastructure engineering consultancy and design
High-speed aerospace research and engineering support
Super/hypersonic wind-tunnel testing collaboration
Structural and materials performance assessment under aerodynamic and elevated-temperature loading
Metallurgical and materials-performance research
Long-term ageing and microstructural assessment of alloys
Engineering analysis and research collaboration
Aerospace testing infrastructure and experimental-environment support
Research Heritage:
Perfect Engineering has supported long-term, industry-originated materials research led by Prof. Melhem and undertaken in collaboration with UNSW researchers. The research originated from more than 10,000 Boeing rivets installed in a major Sydney structure in 2005. Samples were extracted after extended periods of real-world exposure and subjected to laboratory investigation including hardness testing, microscopy, SEM, TEM and metallurgical analysis. The research has examined long-term microstructural change and material ageing and has contributed to academic publications and a completed book, Supersonic Effects on Rivets, Melhem (2024). This long-duration research provides a foundation of aerospace alloy investigations which examines the ageing behaviour and corrosion by the combined aerodynamic, thermal and aggressive environments encountered in super/hypersonic applications.
